In today's society when people think of Rome they often only have thoughts of the Roman legion. While this was a driving force in the history of Rome, there were many cultural contributions as well. The arts also comprised a large portion of Roman history through both form and function. Architectural contributions such as the dome, vault, and arch are still heavily in use today. The genius of the Roman culture is how they took the best aspects of previous cultures and adapted them to suit roman life. In many instances, roman innovation has set the groundwork for modern society. The rise in both population and economic growth brought upon a need for many of the structures that were created, many of which are still standing centuries later. Given the consumable nature of today's society, it is quite a testament to the design of roman engineering that these structures have endured the test of time.
