Ancient Roman Architecture
Determining what is "Roman" about Ancient Roman art has been very hard for people to do because of how the Romans borrowed the techniques for their fine art from the Greek and other cultures. Ancient Roman architecture has no wavering thoughts behind it's originality. It cannot be doubted that Roman architecture is magnificent in its own right.
Ancient Roman politics played a major role in the development of Roman architecture. The Romans used architecture as a means of providing what was needed for politics and their people at that time. Roman architecture was not only decadent, and beautiful; it served a purpose.With an ever expanding empire there was a need for places to worship, places to conduct government business, places for entertainment, and a need for a reliable water source for the city. Roman architects had a rough job ahead of them. The needed to satisfy the desires of the patrons along with the needs of the people while being efficient and inexpensive.

The Romans did borrow basic ideas still behind the architecture of some of it's building like for example the temples they constructed. However, the Romans had to mold these principles to suit the needs of their people so everything that was borrowed was modified to specific needs of the Romans. There were many more people in Rome to accommodate for so this required the use of arches and vaults. The Romans also used concrete to meet the needs of their building. The Romans innovative use of concrete allowed for more flexibility, easier transport, it was cheaper, and actually better fit the needs of Romans more accurately. Rome could required these structures to deal with its growing population.
